Ticked Off

It’s an exciting time! We are experiencing some beautiful spring weather, sailing conditions are great and we have most of the major jobs on our to-do list completed. There are still millions of things to do but the major items are almost complete. I’ll paste the list at the end of this post but the final puzzle was figured out last week.

Melted Inverter Lead

After installing our new battery bank we discovered that our inverter didn’t work. For those who are not familiar with them, inverters convert the electricity from our batteries–12 volts–to electricity we can use to power items like our microwave, computers and most importantly our coffee grinder. The original electrician we had working on the boat thought the inverter was damaged and would need to be replaced. Thankfully, we had a second electrician look at the problem and he found a short in some of the wires. The short had melted several wires including the negative cable on the inverter. It was a significant fire hazard so in addition to not spending money unnecessarily on a new inverter we also fixed a very dangerous situation!

Now that we can charge our MacBooks and make coffee again it’s time to go cruising.

More to come!
