Vancouver Get Away

We put our to-do list on hold and got away from the dock for a few days. We have been wanting to get over to Vancouver for months–partially to do some work on the boat and partly to see our kids (while following all COVID protocols.) We planned to be there for a week. Our plans were cut short when the provincial government introduced more travel restrictions but we had a couple of days there before the new restrictions took effect.

Lining up for the Burrard Street Bridge

It’s the first time we’ve taken our own boat to Vancouver and I was a bit nervous. We don’t normally have to worry about shipping lanes and a lot of commercial traffic so it was a new experience for us. It was fine of course and it was amazing to be able to cruise into such a beautiful city on our own boat. It was spectacular. Passing close to the anchored freighters was actually fun!

Marina near Granville Island

We docked in False Creek very close to Granville Island but because of the current health conditions, we didn’t take advantage of our location and only left the boat for necessities. We’ll definitely have to make a trip back when things return to normal. They will return to normal–right?

From Vancouver we made our way back to our familiar cruising grounds–the Gulf Islands. Being mid-week and early in the cruising season, anchorages were very quiet. We shared anchorages with one or two boats that are usually packed with boats on a summer weekend. Social distancing was easy.

It was a great week and we look forward to getting back out on the water but for now it’s time to get ready for our bi-annual haul out. More on that later.

  1. So beautiful! We did a canoe trip to Wallace Island in grade 7!
You are both so brave and I admire you for your adventures.
