That Sinking Feeling

Okay, not that kind of sinking. This is about our kitchen sink(ing.) Specifically, it’s about the faucet at our kitchen sink.

A year ago, we replaced the original galley faucet. Sharlene did a lot of research to find a faucet that fit the space around the sink. Most faucets were either too tall to fit under the cupboard above the sink or too short to be able to get a pot under. After a lot of searching and some installation challenges we had a faucet we liked.

We were relaxing after dinner recently when we heard the freshwater pump turn on and water running. We looked at each other and realized neither of us were using water. We jumped up, followed the sound and found the burst hose under the kitchen sink.

The faucet had been purchased online so Sharlene retraced our virtual steps to find and contact the vender. While waiting for a response, I spent a day driving between plumbing stores and hose shops trying to buy another hose. I wasn’t successful. I was surprised to learn that hoses are not standard–at least not in our case. They are unique to the faucet they come with. I was told that we would have to purchase another hose from the original manufacturer of our faucet.

The next day we heard back from the vender but they said a new hose would have to come from China and would take 25 days to arrive. We couldn’t wait that long. Who can go a month without a kitchen tap?

We now have a new kitchen faucet. We bought this one locally. I like this one better than the previous one. Perhaps we should have purchased the last one locally too but even our local shop does not stock extra hoses for our new tap. Hmm…

  1. Your title woke me up. Haha, not the verb sink. This faucet story is real and same in our daily life. You are lucky that you could find the good one locally and fit your request.
