We have been in Ensenada, Mexico for almost two weeks now. The time has gone by quickly. As Sharlene’s previous post mentioned, we came her to check into Mexico and to enrol in Spanish lessons. We have done both those things so now the question is, how long should we stay.

There are a few more things on our list of things to do before we go but they won’t take long. Now we wait and watch the weather. We want wind from the Northwest to push us on our journey south but not too much wind.
Winter is definitely coming. The temperatures have dropped considerably since we arrived. Overnight temperatures are in the low teens while daytime temperatures barely make it into the 20’s if even that.
Last week a cold front moved through the area. It brought colder weather and more wind. In speaking with another boater in the marina he said that this was typical winter weather. A cold front will move through for a day or two followed by a few days of warmer weather before another cold front moves through. A strategy for us then is to time our departure so as to catch the tail end of the cold front’s winds. Hopefully, that will give us a day or two of good winds for sailing.
Distances between anchorages are quite large as we head down the coat of Baja. Most are far enough that we will have to sail a day or two between each stop. Hopefully, we’ll be able to time our departures so we can have enough wind to sail. We are looking forward to heading south and seeing more of the Baja peninsula.
