We arrived in Banderas almost three weeks ago. It’s crazy! It feels like we just got here. It’s been a great spot to meet up with family.
Our son, Brian, and his girlfriend, Kyra, were the first to arrive. Next my brother, Chris, and sister-in-law, Marlene, stopped by for one day as Puerto Vallarta was a stop on their cruise ship’s itinerary. Hannah, our daughter, and her fiancé, David, came soon after. It was great to be all together for Christmas.
We spent our time between Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta, Yelapa, Punta de Mita and even made day trips to the surf town of Sayulita. We saw whales and turtles. We fished. We snorkelled. We ate lots of good food. We wandered the busy streets of Puerto Vallarta and lazed on a few beaches. All in all, it was a great Christmas.
Everyone is back home now so it’s back to work for us. “But you’re retired?’ ” you may be thinking. That’s true but a boat is a full-time job. It’s time to get to some of the jobs we’ve neglected the last few weeks. Some of the jobs are just routine maintenance like changing the fuel filters. Others are more involved.
The electric winch that we use to raise the mainsail isn’t working. It will take some time to trouble shoot and repair it. Also, we need to have a piece of metal fabricated for our mainsheet traveller. The piece broke on the way down the outside of the Baja. We can sail the way it is, but we’ll sail better once it’s repaired.
We are in La Cruz while we get our jobs done. La Cruz is a popular spot among cruisers so it’s a good place to get jobs done. From here we’ll head south.
