Elizabeth

Musings by Shar

The market in Neiafu, Tonga, was a great source for fresh fruits and vegetables. I went there often. On one of my trips, I met Elizabeth sitting off to the side at her basket selling table. I stopped to say hi and looked at her baskets. I told her I would like to buy one of her baskets but couldn’t that day. She told me her name and I told her mine. The next time I went to the market she had a big smile on her face and called me by name. I bought a basket.

Each time after that, she has given me some free fruit. She would not take any money for it. The last time I saw her, I gave her something to remember me by and to say thank you.
