Rob and Sharlene’s careers have taken them from the snows of northern Canada, the deserts of Saudi Arabia, the jungles of Indonesia, and the capital of China–Beijing. As international educators they have lived most of their lives on the go. Rob is not ready to say he’s retired. Instead, he’s just moved onto the boat to do something different. It’s a change.
Rob and Sharlene are from the west coast of Canada where Rob grew up around boats. His mom taught him to sail dinghies on Shawnigan Lake and his dad taught him how to navigate on his beloved Hulakai.
Sharlene didn’t grow up on the water but took to the water with a vengeance. She has been a driving force behind their family’s travel adventures, both on and off the water, over the years.
Cambria is a 1999 Westerly Ocean 43 which was built in England. The original owners enjoyed three years sailing from England to the Med, across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal, and across the Pacific to New Zealand. There she was purchased by David and Stephanie Gardiner. David and Stephanie enjoyed Cambria in New Zealand waters for a number of years before deciding to cruise the Pacific’s northwest passages. They had Cambria shipped to Mexico and then sailed up the west coast of the US to Washington State. They spent the next 15+ years cruising the coastal waters of Washington State, British Columbia and Alaska.
Rob and Sharlene bought Cambria in June of 2019. They are currently living aboard in Victoria, Canada and plan to sail to warmer waters in the Pacific in October, 2022.
