We have spent the better part of the last week hauled out in La Cruz, Mexico. We didn’t haul out because of any problems. This was just part of our regular maintenance routine. What wasn’t routine was that we hired a company to do the bulk of the work. Last time we did all theContinue reading “Spring Haul Out 2023: La Cruz, Mexico”

Provisioning Trip #1
Yesterday we made a trip into Bucerias for our first of what will be several provisioning trips. Our trip across to the Marquesas will take the better part of a month and we won’t be able to make a quick trip to the store if we run out of anything.
Back in La Cruz: Whales
We are back in La Cruz, Banderas Bay. We had an easy overnight sail from Bahia Chamela. There wasn’t much wind in the forecast, but we made the most of what there was and actually sailed most of the way. We had to use the engine for a few hours during the night but foundContinue reading “Back in La Cruz: Whales”
Back in Tenacatita
We are back in Tenacatita which is great. It is one of our favourite anchorages. It has a gorgeous sandy beach and good snorkelling in warm clear water. Being back means that we are now heading back north. Going north means sailing to windward so we will pick our weather for the trip carefully. WeContinue reading “Back in Tenacatita”
Keeping Up: Barra de Navidad
It’s hard to keep up with this blog. Most mornings I plan to write an update but that evening as I’m climbing into bed, I realize that I haven’t written anything, and I wonder where the day went. Between sailing, boat projects and exploring there isn’t much time left to write and edit photos. I’mContinue reading “Keeping Up: Barra de Navidad”
Electric Winch
In a recent text message my brother, Chris, commented that soon, I will know how to fix every system on Cambria. It makes sense. We have worked on a lot of Cambria’s systems. From sails and rigging to water systems to electronics, we’ve worked on them. You’d think we’d have things all figured out byContinue reading “Electric Winch”
Getting Ready to Head West
When we were in Banderas Bay we took advantage of some of the info sessions offered by the La Cruz Marina and the local sailing community. We participate in a session on Offshore Weather and one on Cruising to the Marquesas. The weather session covered information like choosing the right time to set off andContinue reading “Getting Ready to Head West”
Whales, Whales and More Whales
A few days ago while walking along a dock in Puerto Vallarta, I overheard a woman talking to the skipper of a tour boat. She and her family were heading out for a day on Banderas Bay. The skipper must have asked what she was hoping to do or see that day because I heardContinue reading “Whales, Whales and More Whales”
Banderas Bay: La Cruz, Yelapa and Puerto Vallarta
We arrived in Banderas almost three weeks ago. It’s crazy! It feels like we just got here. It’s been a great spot to meet up with family. Our son, Brian, and his girlfriend, Kyra, were the first to arrive. Next my brother, Chris, and sister-in-law, Marlene, stopped by for one day as Puerto Vallarta wasContinue reading “Banderas Bay: La Cruz, Yelapa and Puerto Vallarta”
Chacala
Chacala is a quiet beach town that’s an easy sail south from our stop in Mantanchen Bay. It’s known for being a rollie anchorage but we put out a stern anchor which helped. The town is only a few blocks long and consists of a few hotels, some small grocery stores, and shops selling touristContinue reading “Chacala”
