Vaitahu, Tahuata Island and Hiva-Oa From the island of Fatu Hiva, we made our way back towards Hiva-Oa making a brief stop at Vaitahu Bay on Tahuata. We had planned to go ashore but because of what the guidebook described as wind bullets, we did not. Instead, we picked up the anchor after just oneContinue reading “Marquesas Photos: May 16 – 24, 2023”

Marquesas Photos: May 7 – 16
Landfall: Tahuata Island and Hiva-Oa Island We arrived on a long weekend so were not able to check in to the country until after it passed. Friends had warned us that the anchorage on Hiva-Oa where we needed to check in was rollie and not great for swimming so, we spent a night at HanamoenoaContinue reading “Marquesas Photos: May 7 – 16”
Bon Voyage, Mike!
My brother, Mike, is on his way back to Canada as I write. It would have been a very different trip without Mike. In fact, it may not have even happened without him. When he joined us in Mexico we thought we’d be there a week or ten days before we departed for the Marquesas.Continue reading “Bon Voyage, Mike!”
Passage Notes: Mexico to the Marquesas
Here are the posts I made to our PredictWind Tracking Page. I have added a few photos to show life along the way. Day 0: And Away We Go! We left Punta de Mita just after noon today. Winds are light but it feels good to be underway. When I started up the chart plotterContinue reading “Passage Notes: Mexico to the Marquesas”
Thanks Mexico! It’s Been Awesome!
We’re on our way to the Marquesa Islands, French Polynesia. Well, we’re almost on our way. We have checked out of Mexico and have made our way to Punta de Mita. It’s on the northwest corner of Banderas Bay. We’ll head offshore tomorrow. The weather looks good. We have really enjoyed our time in Mexico.Continue reading “Thanks Mexico! It’s Been Awesome!”
Checking Out: Thanks Mexico!
We will check out of Mexico this morning! We’re still waiting for a spare part for our water maker. (It was supposed to be here last week.) We’re hoping it will arrive today. The weather is looking good for a Wednesday or Thursday departure. The trip across to the Marquesas will take three to fourContinue reading “Checking Out: Thanks Mexico!”
Provisioning for the Passage
How many groceries do you use for three people over six weeks? That’s what we’re trying to decide. We are provisioning the boat with groceries for our trip to the Marquesas in French Polynesia. They are approximately 2800 nautical miles from our present location in Banderas Bay, Mexico. It will take us three to fourContinue reading “Provisioning for the Passage”
Update March 29, 2023
Apologies for the lack of posts. Frankly, we’ve been very busy prepping the boat and haven’t had the energy to write. Also, I haven’t felt very inspired to write. It’s been a tough slog the last month–too many boat projects and too many things breaking. There is light at the end of the tunnel though,Continue reading “Update March 29, 2023”
Provisioning Trip #1
Yesterday we made a trip into Bucerias for our first of what will be several provisioning trips. Our trip across to the Marquesas will take the better part of a month and we won’t be able to make a quick trip to the store if we run out of anything.
Back in La Cruz: Whales
We are back in La Cruz, Banderas Bay. We had an easy overnight sail from Bahia Chamela. There wasn’t much wind in the forecast, but we made the most of what there was and actually sailed most of the way. We had to use the engine for a few hours during the night but foundContinue reading “Back in La Cruz: Whales”
