We’ve made it to Australia. Actually, we’ve been here nearly two and a half weeks. I have no idea where the time went but it’s gone. I haven’t had much time to write but I’ll get some writing done over the next week.

Encounters with Officialdom: Clearing Into Vanuatu
There is a surprising amount of paperwork that comes with the cruising life. Each time we enter or leave a country, we must clear in or out with Customs and Immigration. It’s similar to what one does at airports when flying internationally. The process is straight forward and streamlined at airports. It’s not as streamlinedContinue reading “Encounters with Officialdom: Clearing Into Vanuatu”
Hurry Up and Wait
We didn’t leave for Australia today. The winds would have been very light if we’d left today. We would have been motoring so we decided to wait until tomorrow. We’ll leave tomorrow morning for sure! We completed the checkout paperwork this morning and then spent the last of our Vatu on a nice lunch andContinue reading “Hurry Up and Wait”
Prepping for Australia
We are in Luganville, Vanuatu getting ready for our passage to Australia. It’s been a weird one. We’ve been told that this passage is an easy one but it’s proved tricky for us to plan. It’s not tricky like a passage to New Zealand is tricky. Quite the opposite. Where this year’s route to NewContinue reading “Prepping for Australia”
Small World
This small world moment came as we entered Port Resolution in Vanuatu. Port Resolution is a community of a few hundred people living simply on the southern tip of Tanna Island. It is approximately 120nm from Port Villa, the capital, on Efata Island, 450nm from Fiji, 200nm from New Caledonia and about 800nm from Australia.Continue reading “Small World”
Images of Uliveo Island
We spent a few very pleasant days in the Maskelyne Islands. They are about halfway between Port Villa, the capital of Vanuatu, and Luganville where we plan to depart for Australia. The draw to the Maskelyne islands are dugongs. Dugongs are related to Manatees and are quite common in Vanuatu. The first day we anchoredContinue reading “Images of Uliveo Island”
Port Resolution, Vanuatu
Port Resolution was our introduction to Vanuatu and based on our experience, we’re excited to see more of the country. Port Resolution is a real gem. Ashore there is the Port Resolution Yacht club consisting of a small hut and a few long tables under the cover of a thin roof. Most days the governmentContinue reading “Port Resolution, Vanuatu”
Should We Be Worried?
We are anchored at Port Resolution, Vanuatu. It is Sunday morning as I write. We arrived on Friday morning hoping to clear into the country before the weekend. It didn’t happen. At this point, we assume it will be Monday before we can clear in. We don’t know. We have called on the radio andContinue reading “Should We Be Worried?”
And We’re Off!
Vanuatu here we come! We checked out of Fiji first thing this morning. Next stop, Vanuatu. As we prepared to cast off our lines the marina staff gathered and sang a farewell song. It was very touching. I teared up which then made it hard to back the boat away from the slip 🙂 WeContinue reading “And We’re Off!”
Now What?
Sorry for not writing in a while. Since Hannah and David left we’ve been in a holding pattern–deciding what to do, where to go and watching the weather. We have decided to go to Vanuatu. Several people have mentioned that they haven’t heard of Vanuatu so here’s a link. It looks amazing! The weather looksContinue reading “Now What?”
