We are currently tied to a dock eight nautical miles (14km) up the Brisbane River. Cambria will be loaded on Yacht Express in a few days so we are busy getting ready for the trip. The shipping company recommends prepping the boat as if it is going on a passage so we are making sureContinue reading “Prepping Cambria for Shipping”

Stuff That Works: Our Watermaker
I have been writing posts about equipment and software that work for us. It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these. You can find more of them by searching the site for #stuffthatworks or #stuffwelike. We like stuff that works. I don’t like our watermaker. That’s not true. I like it most ofContinue reading “Stuff That Works: Our Watermaker”
That Didn’t Go As Planned: Our Holding Tank
We had an unwelcome surprise a few weeks ago when we discovered a small leak in our holding tank. It was on the top so it leaked air mainly but still was not good. For those that are lucky enough to not be familiar with holding tanks, they do what the name suggests, they holdContinue reading “That Didn’t Go As Planned: Our Holding Tank”
NZ Anchorages, Moorings, Marinas: Challenges
This post is more for our cruising friends that may be heading to New Zealand in the future. If you’re not a cruiser don’t feel you have to read it. You won’t hurt my feelings if you skip this one. 🙂 New Zealand is very protective of its waters. They guard against any unwanted seaContinue reading “NZ Anchorages, Moorings, Marinas: Challenges”
Haul Out
We’re hauling out this week. We last hauled out in Mexico only 11 months ago. We hadn’t planned to haul out in New Zealand. Unfortunately, it’s necessary. The main reason for hauling out is that our bottom paint isn’t holding up. Stuff grows like mad here. I don’t know if the bottom paint we usedContinue reading “Haul Out”
Dodger Repair
We took some solid waves on our trip south from to New Zealand. A few sent water up and over our cockpit dodger. Some hit pretty hard. As a result, several of the screws that hold it to the cockpit combing pulled out. It took a few tries, but I think we have it fixedContinue reading “Dodger Repair”
Salt water pump
Musings by Shar We have had this galley saltwater pump for about 2 years. It has been a bit of a dud from the start. It has always leaked no matter how tight I made it, how many o- rings I put on it, or how much goop I add to seal it up. WhenContinue reading “Salt water pump”
Comments
First, thanks to those that leave comments on the blog. It’s great to hear from you and great to know people are reading our posts. Second, sorry if we don’t respond to comments right away. We’re using cell service for our internet connection and we’re finding service in French Polynesia is very spotty. We haveContinue reading “Comments”
Here Comes the Sun Part2
Our new solar panels are up and working. It has taken nearly six weeks, but they are mounted on our radar arch and they are producing clean, free energy! To be honest, it was a struggle. It wasn’t easy to find everything needed for the installation. There we two parts to the installation. First, weContinue reading “Here Comes the Sun Part2”
Update March 29, 2023
Apologies for the lack of posts. Frankly, we’ve been very busy prepping the boat and haven’t had the energy to write. Also, I haven’t felt very inspired to write. It’s been a tough slog the last month–too many boat projects and too many things breaking. There is light at the end of the tunnel though,Continue reading “Update March 29, 2023”
