We enjoyed a visit from our daughter Hannah and son-in-law David. They came to Fiji for their honeymoon. After several nights at a 5-star resort they joined us for a week of sailing. We headed up to the Yasawa group of islands in search of manta-rays, sharks and sandy beaches. The weather did not cooperateContinue reading “A Visit from Hannah and David”

Stuff That Works: Hooka System
We have recently installed a hooka system onboard. For those that aren’t familiar with hooka systems, they aren’t to be confused with hooka pipes. A hooka system consists of an air compressor that pumps air down a hose to a diver. Our system consists of a small electric compressor connected to a 14m hose. AtContinue reading “Stuff That Works: Hooka System”
Up The Mast
Last week, I went up the mast in preparation for our passage to the Marquesas. I looked for any signs of wear or weakness that might be a problem on our passage. I didn’t find any. Here are a few photos.
If it ain’t broke…
Musings by Shar The old philosophy, ‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it’, has some merit, I’m sure. But we are finding that if we don’t fix it before it is broken, it will break. Things are even breaking after being fixed. No matter how much preventative maintenance we seem to do, it never seemsContinue reading “If it ain’t broke…”
The Quest-2
This sunrise was taken while leaving Santa Catalina Island off the coast of Santa Barbara, CA. We were heading to San Diego and needed an early start so we would arrive before sunset. The Quest
Musings by Shar I have decided to go on a quest to find the most beautiful beaches and the most beautiful sunrises/sunsets during our time on the boat. For my first post, I am going to post a photo of a beach we found while going around Vancouver Island last summer. It took my breathContinue reading “The Quest”
Half Moon Bay
We stopped in Pillar Point Harbour, Half Moon Bay for a couple of nights. It turned into a week. The weather extended our stay. The anchorage is well protected which is why we stayed. A low-pressure system moved through a day or two after we got there. We saw winds gusting into the mid-30s ktsContinue reading “Half Moon Bay”

Amazing Engineering
Musings by Shar I always marvel at the sight of these huge container ships. I know in my head they are massive, but when you sail beside one, you really appreciate the magnitude of engineering that is required to keep it afloat. They seem to defy gravity. Just imagine all the items that have passedContinue reading “Amazing Engineering”
Too Close for Comfort
The first day of our adventure began as we left Canada and ventured across the Juan de Fuca waters to clear customs in Port Angeles. We needn’t have worried about what we would be allowed to import. All we had to do was fill out a form on line and within minutes we were allowedContinue reading “Too Close for Comfort”
