Standing Rigging

This week we are back at Blackline Marine at Canoe Cove. We will be here for a couple of weeks while they finish off a few jobs we started last month and replace the standing rigging. Standing rigging is the name given to the steel cables attached to the mast. They hold the mast in place. It’s a big job.

Later today a crane will pull the mast from the boat so it and the cables can be taken to Blackline’s shop where they will fit new cables. In a week or so the crane will be used again to fit the mast back into place.

We arrived at Blackline’s dock a couple of days ago, removed the sails and spent an afternoon disconnecting various bits and pieces to be ready to pull the mast today.

More to come.

  1. Rob, you made me know that traveling by boat is not an easy plan. This will need to face so many challenges. Hope your maintenance would complete successfully and start your sailing soon! Keep warm too!

    1. Hi Peggy, great to hear from you! There are lots of things to maintain on a boat but thankfully I enjoy doing them. We’re getting them done now so when the weather warms up this spring we can spend our time sailing!
