Haul Out

We have just completed our bi-annual haul out. For those that are not familiar with this process, every year or two–depending where you live–boats need to be hauled out of the water, inspected for unusual wear and tear, painted and then returned to the water. It’s strenuous messy work but it’s necessary. We had five long days but we got it done and Cambria is in great shape for another year or two.

We hauled out at Canoe Cove Marina and Boatyard which is also home to our favourite riggers at Blackline Marine. We took advantage of this and had Blackline do a few more things for us while we were there.

Here is a list of the main jobs we did and some photos:

  • cleaned all growth from the bottom–there wasn’t much
  • sanded and painted the bottom of the boat–the paint inhibits things from growing on the bottom
  • replaced sacrificial anodes (zincs)
  • lubricated all through hull fittings
  • lubricated the folding prop
  • washed, waxed and polished the hull
  • replaced solent halyard (Blackline)
  • created a way to secure the solent stay so it doesn’t chafe on the sails when we’re not using it (Blackline)

  1. wow, this is quite a task, though can be very enjoying seeing the beloved boat been injecting with new life.
