Cockpit Table Rehab

Our cockpit is like our living room. We spend a lot of time in it. We use it when we’re sailing but it is also a great place to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening sunset. It’s probably the most used space on the boat. It has a small folding table that we use to enjoy an evening meal and then fold away when we’re sailing. Unfortunately, a small plastic part that connected the table’s support leg to the steering binnacle broke recently. The part was old and after many years of service it snapped. It’s understandable but we couldn’t find the exact replacement part.

Luckily, we found some other parts that would support the table and installed them. The repair process involved drilling and tapping some new holes in our steering binnacle so we could bolt a new fitting for the table leg. This was another new skill for my brother Mike and me–see my post Always Learning for more about my learning process–but we got it done and now enjoy having our table again!
