Moving Day!

A few days ago was moving day. We moved our stuff aboard Cambria for the season.

We’ve had Cambria for almost three years now so we have a lot of stuff already on board but late in the autumn each year we move things that won’t fare well in our cool damp winters off the boat–things like clothes, paper products and food.

We still spend time on the boat during the winter months but when we head to the boat we plan and pack for a few days. During the winter we think of ourselves as being based more on land than on the boat.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been taking to and leaving more and more stuff on the boat. Last week we crossed the line. We are now based on the boat more than we are based on land. It’s not that we won’t spend time at our family home but it won’t be our home base any longer. The boat is home. We’ll pack for a few days when we head to the house.

What makes things different this year is that we don’t have an end date. The last few years the boat would be our home base until the fall winds and rain set in. It was usually sometime in October. We’d gradually move our stuff off the boat. During the winter we’d spend more time ashore than afloat but not this year. This year when the cold winds and rain arrive, we’ll be gone. With all the craziness in the world it’s hard to know for sure but if things go according to plan, we’ll be in Southern California when the cold weather arrives here. The boat is home. We don’t have a short or mid-term goal for moving ashore. This fact is both scary and crazy exciting!

  2. Robert, so happy to see your updated news. It’s our last day of May holiday today. Time flew, you have been living in the boat for 3 years. I am glad you feel home in boat. I love sea but I am the boat sick people. Did you fish on the boat? Could you share some photos about the sea in the future?
