Now that we’re back in Victoria we are busy with our final preparations for our trip down the west coast of the US to Mexico. Between now and our departure day we have a number of small jobs to do. There are spare parts to buy, winches to service and a long list of little things that need our attention. We won’t get them all done before we leave but that’s the way it is when one owns a boat. With a boat, I feel I’ve had a good day if I have crossed more things off my to-do list than I have added.
When we’re not working on the boat, we’ll be spending time with family and friends. We have just returned from Alberta where we visited with family. Between Covid and everyone’s busy schedules, it has been several years since we’ve seen some of them. It was a great trip.
The first leg of our trip south will take us from Victoria to San Francisco. My brother, Mike, will join us. Potentially, this is one of the harder legs of our trip so it will be great to have an extra set of hands-on board. Our departure date is based on his work commitments, so Sharlene and I plan to cross into the US the week of August 15th. We will spend a few days getting supplies that we aren’t permitted to take across the border–i.e. fruits and vegetables. Mike will join us at the end of the week. From there, we will watch for a good weather window, travel out the Strait of Juan de Fuca and turn south around Cape Flattery. Around here people call it The Big Left Turn!
How exciting!!! The big day is close at hand. And I am so glad to see that Mike will be with you for the first leg of your journey. Many hands make light work
