Sails

We got our sails back on. We took them off after our trip around Vancouver Island and had UK Sails look over them to check for wear and places that needed reinforcement.

Main sail coming down!

Our sails are big, heavy, and awkward to work with so getting them on and off was a bit of a job for the two of us. When we first bought them, Stuart from UK Sails put them on, and we just helped. Of course, he knew what he was doing. This time we were all on our own without his expertise.

When taking sails off or putting them on we wanted dead calm. Sails are big and heavy, so we didn’t want them filled with wind. That would make the job even harder. The week we put the sails back on we were experiencing a heat wave. Day time temperatures were near 30° Celsius so we got up early to have the work done by mid-morning. Working in the early morning not only meant the air was cooler, it also meant there was no wind.

We got the job done with only one call to Stuart for advice. Now, we shouldn’t have to take them off for another couple of years.
