California Dreaming No More

No need to dream about it. We’re here!

We’ve covered a lot of ground/water since our last post. In the Strait of Juan de Fuca, we spotted humpback whales several times. We’ve enjoyed some great fast sailing. At times we had more wind and waves than we wanted–steady winds in the mid 30s and gusts to 40+–but we learned to deal with it.

We’re now in Crescent City, CA. We came in early Friday morning and have been catching up on sleep and enjoying walking around the area. We’ll wait here for a favourable weather forecast before heading on to San Francisco.

  1. We had a close call in Crescent City in 1964 and we stopped over night at a motel in Crescent City. We were taking Marlene to Disney Land before she started grade one in September. That day an enormous earth quake hit Alaska and sent a tsunami coursing down the west coast of North America. We learned later that the very motel we had stayed in suffered significant damage from that large wave. Whew!!

    1. That’s amazing. There are signs and information up all around the harbour about that tsunami. Several people lots their lives. They had another one in 2011. It damaged a lot of boats but no lives were lost.
