Half Moon Bay

We stopped in Pillar Point Harbour, Half Moon Bay for a couple of nights. It turned into a week. The weather extended our stay.

So many pelicans!

The anchorage is well protected which is why we stayed. A low-pressure system moved through a day or two after we got there. We saw winds gusting into the mid-30s kts (55+km). We stayed on the boat that day to keep a close eye on things. Thankfully, we have a great anchor, so we had nothing to worry about. The local kite boarders and windsurfers enjoyed the winds.

After the storm we waited several more days for favourable winds to move in. We prefer winds that are behind us. They help push us along. We filled our days with a few boat projects and some walks along the shore.

They have great beach side trails in Half Moon Bay. One walk took us out to see the famous Mavericks surf break though it’s more of a winter storm break, so it was calm the day we were there. On another day we walked into the town of Half Moon Bay. It was a much longer walk than we normally do but it was very enjoyable to walk along the coast trail.

  1. Sounds like you are in no hurry and able to enjoy the local sights on your way south. As has been well quoted “Desecration is the better part of Valor”

  2. I like the photos of pelicans, kites and rainbow. I am so jealous that you could see so many pelicans. I never saw them before. Thanks for sharing your trip sights to me!

    1. Hi Peggy, until this trip I don’t think I’ve seen pelicans either. It’s fun to watch them from a distance. Up close, they smell pretty bad πŸ™‚
