Isla Isabel

Isla Isabel is described as Mexico’s Galápagos Islands. I don’t know if that’s true as I’ve never been to the Galápagos, but it was amazing. The place is teaming with birds–frigates, blue-footed boobies, brown pelicans, Herman’s gulls, terns and more. Additionally, there are iguanas and Mexican milk snakes. We didn’t see any snakes, but we saw several iguanas.

The birds show little fear, so we were able to get quite close to them as we wandered the trails on the south end of the island.

The anchorage has a reputation for not offering much protection in bad weather and for having a rocky bottom which makes anchoring tricky. Even with these drawbacks, I’d say that the island is a must stop for any cruisers in the area.

    1. Yes, I guess cruisers know about it, but it doesn’t see many other visitors. There were some scuba divers camping on the island but there is no other accommodation.
