Provisioning for the Passage

How many groceries do you use for three people over six weeks? That’s what we’re trying to decide. We are provisioning the boat with groceries for our trip to the Marquesas in French Polynesia. They are approximately 2800 nautical miles from our present location in Banderas Bay, Mexico. It will take us three to four weeks to make the trip. The general guideline is to carry enough food for the trip plus 50% more. That means food for six weeks. But how much is that?

Sharlene has been doing her best to track how many groceries we use so we can estimate how much we’ll need for the trip. It’s challenging because currently we rarely go more than a few days without picking up a few things at a store or having a meal at a restaurant. It’s pretty important that we estimate well because there are no stores or restaurants once we pick up the anchor and head west!

We have made countless trips to the grocery stores over the last few weeks. Once we get back to the boat it’s like a giant jigsaw puzzle figuring out where to put everything. Thankfully, Sharlene is gifted when it comes to organizing and packing!

We are almost ready to go. We have a few more things to check off our to-do list but we’re close. We will check out of the country in a few days and watch for a good weather window and then we’re off!
