Papeete: Breaking Free

We managed to get our jobs done and leave Papeete, Tahiti. In an earlier post I said we’d hoped to be done our jobs in a week but it would likely be ten days to two weeks before we got everything done. It was 16 days. We enjoyed Papeete but while we were there we felt our time slipping away. There are still many islands to visit and things to do yet we have very little time left before our French Polynesian visas run out. We won’t have time to see and do everything we had hoped.

From Papeete we sailed to Moorea. We only had one night there so we had to make the most of it. We met up with our friends on Renard who showed us a spot where we snorkelled with stingrays and sharks. From there we moved over and snorkelled around some tikis that Tihoti GUY, a Moorean artist, created in the ’90’s. Both snorkels were amazing!

From Moorea we made an overnight sail to Raiatea. We are currently anchored off the northwest tip of the island. We’ll be here through the weekend and then sail over to Bora Bora. In many ways, Bora Bora is the reason for this trip. For years we have seen photos and heard stories of Bora Bora. In our minds, it is the quintessential South Pacific Island. Photos of it are what captured our imaginations and made us want to sail through these islands. Of course, what’s in our imagination and the reality, likely won’t align but that’s okay. We have already seen so many amazing spots that our South Pacific dreams have been met and more.

Approaching Raiatea
