Salt water pump

 Musings by Shar

We have had this galley saltwater pump for about 2 years. It has been a bit of a dud from the start. It has always leaked no matter how tight I made it, how many o- rings I put on it, or how much goop I add to seal it up.

When our water maker started giving us problems a few months ago, we started using it more. Water was constantly leaking under the sink and onto the wooden shelves, making them swell.

Determined to get to the bottom of it, I took it apart yet again and tried, yet again, to seal the countertop hole where the water hose exits. The problem is that the spout rotates which means if you turn it the hose rotates as well, breaking any seals you have made. Throwing caution to the wind, I filled the bottom foot part with goop as well as around the hole for the water hose.

I am pleased to say it seems to have worked. We cautiously turn the spout and so far, so good. I sometimes wonder who they have testing these items.

    1. Yes and a few days ago it started losing prime. Tried to find a caught fish but no luck. It works after one or two pumps but makes a weird hissing sound after being used. Fun times in problem solving land.
