We have returned to the town of Russell after some time exploring Kerikeri Inlet and further north to Whangaroa Harbour.
Kerikeri Inlet is on the north side of the Bay of Islands. It’s a secure anchorage from which we dinghied a few nautical miles up the inlet to the town of Kerikeri. We spent two days exploring Kerikeri and the walks around it.

From Kerikeri we left the Bay of Islands to travel north to Whangaroa Harbour. Once we passed through the narrow entrance, there were several bays to choose from for us to anchor. We anchored in Rere Bay. We had several days of rain while we were there but we did get ashore for some walks and also explored the rest of the area in our dinghy. The rock formations were amazing!

Yesterday, after a great sail back to the Bay of Islands—well, great except for the last hour of 20 – 25 kts on the nose–we are anchored near the town of Russell. It’s a picturesque old town where we’ll chillax, get some groceries and some fuel before heading back out to further explore the Bay of Islands.
Amazing scenery. The water colours are incredible.
