Back in Mexico

We are back in Mexico–back in Ensenada. Yesterday, we walked across the border at San Diego and then drove to Ensenada. It’s one of the few times we have retraced our steps on this trip. It feels good to be in a familiar place. Of course, I enjoy exploring new places but somehow this time it feels good to be back on familiar ground.

On the road to Ensenada

We’re here with our friends on their boat Unbelievable. Yesterday when walking along the boardwalk, we talked about how different being in Ensenada feels this time. Last time, we had so many miles in front of us–so many passages, so many firsts, so much to learn. Then, I felt an underlying current of nervousness deep inside. It wasn’t crippling but it was there. I don’t have that now–at least not to the same degree.

The passage home from here will not be easy. It will be against the prevailing winds and currents. We will have to watch the weather closely so that we choose the best time to make our passages but we’ve learned a lot since we were here before. Our confidence in Cambria has grown. This may all blow up in my face but I’m not nervous about the trip ahead. I expect we’ll have some surprises and some uncomfortable times but I have confidence in our boat and our skills to be able to deal with what comes. Let’s hope I’m right.

The freighter carrying Cambria will arrive tomorrow. Cambria is scheduled to unload the following day–Sunday.

More to come…
